For Sue and Ed, saying that they are lucky to do what they love in life is an understatement. For Sue in particular, horses were not a part of her life, they WERE her life. She spent over 20 years training standard bred race horses and showing Paints. Having always been an admirer of the most colorful of horses, falling in love with Gypsy Vanners was not surprising. But as any Gypsy Vanner fan can attest to, it’s the temperament and majesty of these animals that grabs and keeps you. “In 2001, Ed and I went down to see Dennis Thompson (the first importer of Gypsy Vanners in the United States) in Ocala, Florida, and it was love at first sight. I knew at once that this was it,” she continued. We came to Florida to consider one Gypsy Vanner and left for home with two weanling fillies.”

El Brio is home to a variety of Gypsy Vanner Horse, and people fly in from all over the country to purchase and enjoy them. “It’s fun to see them again for the “first time” through others’ eyes,” Ed chimes in. “We love to see new “Gypsy devotees” in the making!”

Ed and Sue are absolutely dedicated to protecting and promoting the breed, and continuing its success. “We are committed to preserving the history and breeding of the Gypsy Vanner breed,” said Sue. “The Gypsies spent hundreds of years developing this amazing breed and we want to keep it pure.”
